About allotments in Edinburgh

If you don't have a garden of your own, renting an allotment gives you the chance to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables. We manage 1,510 plots spread over 30 sites across the city.

Renting an allotment

All sites currently have a waiting list. You can find your nearest allotment site and an estimated waiting time in our allotments directory.

Full plots are approximately 10m x 20m in size and half plots approximately 10m x 10m but sizes can vary. Allotments can be hired by individuals or groups and a 50% concession is available to people who are of state pensionable age, unemployed or full time student.

The annual rentals are currently

  • full plot £108 or £54 with concession.
  • half plot £54 or £27 with concession.
  • quarter plot £27 (no concession available).

In addition to the rental fee allotment tenants are encouraged to pay an optional £2.50 FEDAGA Association Fee, FEDAGA is an organisation that actively supports allotment users throughout the Edinburgh area.

Each year allotment tenants are invoiced directly for the rental of their allotment plot and the association fee and instructions on payment options are listed on the reverse of the invoice you can also pay your fee online.

Apply for an allotment

Complete the application form and return it to the allotment office.  

Once we have received an application form, we will send out confirmation by post and you will be added to the waiting list.

New allotments

We are keen to add to the number of allotment sites in Edinburgh. If you are a private landowner and would like to create allotments on your land we are happy to work with you. Please email us for information
