Choosing a registered home care provider

You can buy services from a provider if you do not qualify for care and support in the home through the Council, or if you prefer to arrange your own support through a Direct Payment. You should contact Social Care Direct to ask for advice and to arrange an assessment before you decide to pay for your own care.


You can search for home care providers who are registered with the Care Inspectorate to provide care and support in the home. These are the providers that the Council does business with.

What to look for

When you contact a service providing care at home, you should check it is of high quality and offers the exact service you need.

You should ask questions about

  • their punctuality
  • reliability and consistency of care
  • the training their staff have had.

You should also ask for details of the costs and any extra charges applied for working at night, weekends and Bank Holidays.
