James Gillespie's Schools Campus

Context

Drawing of James Gillespies new campus dp 220x150

Located in a popular residential area this campus has long been associated with education. It is a busy site as it is home to both James Gillespie's High School and James Gillespie's Primary School. With the historic Bruntsfield House sitting at its heart, it is a unique and exciting location for learning.

However, we now want to rebuild James Gillespie's High School and to create a fresh, modern and inspiring environment for the school's students, appropriate for today's needs and flexible enough to adapt for future changes.

At the same time we propose to extend and improve the Primary School too. We want to provide a new gym hall and new nursery accommodation (and more nursery places) for the school. Two new class spaces would also be created within the building.

The architects and design team are working closely with the schools to make sure that their new buildings meet the needs of the curriculum and also to recreate the strong campus feel that is much valued by them.

A comprehensive consultation also took place with the local community before designs were submitted to planning. Further revisions were made during the planning process and we will continue to talk with the local community to address any issues which may arise through the remainder of the project.
