Street names and numbers

The Council is responsible for

  • installing and maintaining street nameplates within the area
  • naming and numbering new streets within the Council boundary
  • renaming and renumbering of existing developments when required.

The Royal Mail is responsible for the allocation of postcodes. Any postcode enquiries should be directed to Royal Mail postcode finder or phone on 08456 011 110.

Apply for a new street name and/ or number

Download the statutory address application form and return to the Street Naming team. Applications for new addresses should be submitted as soon as possible once a building warrant has been granted.

Apply for a confirmation of address

To confirm the statutory address of a property, download the confirmation of address application form and return to the Street Naming team.

Street nameplates

To apply for street nameplates for a new development complete the street signs application form and return to the Street Naming team.

To report problems with a street nameplate please complete the missing or damaged signs form and return to the Street Naming team.


Street naming and numbering is a chargeable service. The proceeds are used to cover administration costs associated with the provision of the street naming and numbering service.
