Bus shelter replacement programme

Older bus shelters with advertising panels are being replaced across the city to provide commuters with more modern, transparent and accessible facilities.

The first renewal phase involving these older shelters was completed in April 2018 and the programme for additional phases will continue until all are replaced. The next renewals will commence in early 2019 with over 50 new replacement shelters planned.

Replacing a bus shelter takes approximately two weeks to complete, depending on electrics and foundations. It involves four separate elements of work

  • power transfer
  • shelter removal
  • new shelter installation
  • new shelter foundation installation.

Please note the foundations can take up to seven days to complete and no other activity can take place on the site until the concrete foundation is cured.

You will be signposted to another nearby stop or find a temporary bus stop, close to the existing shelter when it is being removed.
