Meadowbank regeneration

The Meadowbank regeneration is redeveloping the stadium and the surrounding land. This is a major place-making project and we expect it to bring significant opportunities to the area.

The redevelopment includes a

  • new sports centre
  • mixed-use development on the area surrounding the sports centre.

Work so far

In June 2018 the Council approved detailed plans for a new £45 million Meadowbank Sport Centre. You can watch a virtual tour of the new Sports Centre.

The Council has also approved in principle the redevelopment of the land surrounding the sports centre for a mix of uses including

  • residential
  • student accommodation
  • hotel
  • commercial uses.

Planned work

  • Demolition of the old sports centre is underway.
  • Work on the new sports centre is expected to begin in summer 2019.
  • The new sports centre is expected to open in 2020.
  • The Council is working with Collective Architecture to produce a masterplan for the rest of the site.

Get involved

The Council is planning a series of engagement events to help inform our approach to the site.
