City of Edinburgh Council

Leith Programme 2012-2014

Your comments and questions

On July 16-17, 2012 we held initial stakeholder events to get feedback from the local community about the planned works. You can read a summary of what was discussed, including stakeholder suggestions. We've also made available comments received at the events as well as comments received after the events.

We've begun looking at all the questions you've asked about the Leith Improvement Programme. We've already published answers to some of your questions and will be adding more over the next few weeks. Please see our Leith Improvement Plan questions and answers to view our responses.

Consultation

Wide consultation has been an essential part of the development of The Leith Programme. Based on a set of preliminary designs developed by the Council, we gathered local people's input about a range of environmental improvements including improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, to pavements and the layout of the streets to make the area accessible and attractive as possible within the scope of the programme.

Through the use of a variety of consultation and engagement methods such as public open events, focus groups, on-street surveys and an online survey (which closed in mid-January) we have collected a great deal of valuable information from local stakeholders on how well these preliminary designs meet people's needs and aspirations. We have contacted a number of local groups representing different ages, faiths, ethnicities, abilities and LGBT amongst others in order to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to have their views heard. In addition, a number of local organisations have sent us well thought out and considered submissions to the draft plans.

The views received are currently being considered to inform a final design for the streets and they will are available on the right hand side of this page. The report on the Leith Programme due to go to Council's Transport and Environment Committee on 19 March 2013
