Edinburgh public spaces

Public realm is the parts of the city that are for people to see and use without charge 24 hours a day. This includes streets, squares and parks.

The public realm strategy sets out our vision for the city and has details on materials, lighting and areas for investment.

Edinburgh lighting strategy

The strategy provides an approach to lighting issues that will be addressed through day to day works done by us and our partners.

Work will take place on historic lighting in the city centre and this will extend to other areas. The history of street lighting in the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh by Edinburgh World Heritage provides background information.
