Text messaging for Council Tax

When contacting us about Council Tax, Housing Benefit, or Council Tax Reduction, we will ask you for your phone number.

We need this to contact you about your enquiry.  We will not use this number or share it with anyone else without your consent, unless required to do so by law.

If we do not receive your Council Tax payment by the due date, the Council is allowed to use information it holds about you to help collect the tax owed.

As part of this, if we hold a mobile number for you, we may send you a text message reminder. This will include a link you can use to make a payment. This service is planned to start in April 2017. This service is being delivered in partnership with Yakara, who will send the text messages and take payments on our behalf.

The Council is looking into services which will allow you to receive other text messages about your tax and benefits if you want them. These services will be offered on an 'opt in' basis and we will not use your mobile number for this purpose unless you ask us to.
