How to view or comment on a planning application

Viewing an application

If your search returns a large number of results, you can use the advanced planning application search to refine your search.

Commenting on an application

To find out what you can comment on, when you can comment and where to find planning applications, read or download our Guidance Note on Commenting on Planning Proposals or Applications (PDF).

You may also want to read the Edinburgh City Local Plan, which guides development in the whole urban area, and part of the rural Green Belt fringe, or the Rural West Edinburgh Local Plan.

Using our online service you must register to comment online.  It only takes a couple of minutes and will also allow you to track applications and save searches.  Once registered, please follow the steps below:

  • Log in to your account
  • Click "Search>Planning>Simple search" and find the application you wish to comment on
  • On the right side of the page click "Make a public comment"
  • Enter your comments
  • Click "Submit"

To comment by post, please write to the address below ensuring you include the following:

  • The date
  • The name and address of the sender
  • The reference number of the application
  • The address of the site
  • Your comments
