A health and safety policy sets outs the aims and objectives of a business for improving health and safety. It also sets out the arrangements in place for meeting these objectives, e.g. who does what, when and how.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers with 5 or more employees to have a written statement of their policy.
A health and safety policy is not the same as a risk assessment. More information on risk assessment can be found at the risk assessment page.
The Health and Safety Executive have more information on their website including a health and safety policy template.- Forward this page
