Edinburgh's economy is growing, and one of our biggest priorities and challenges is keeping up with the transport needs of our city. We are also trying to make our streets safer, protect and care for the city's environment and help people without access to a car or with mobility problems to get around.
Different people have different views - for example, motorists often want more parking, cyclists more cycle paths and bus passengers more frequent buses and more bus lanes. Pedestrians want pleasant and safe streets. We have to make difficult choices to try to strike a fair balance and ensure the city's transport network continues to flow smoothly for all of us.
To help guide the development of, and investment in, Edinburgh 's transport facilities the Council has produced a Local Transport Strategy and a longer term Transport 2030 Vision. This is supported by the Active Travel Action Plan, the Road Safety Plan, and the Public Transport Plan (under preparation).
