City of Edinburgh Council

Road occupation permits

Apply for a road occupation permit

You must get a permit from the Council if you want to carry out work in or occupy a public street.

You can apply and make payment online for road occupation and skip permits.

You can also apply by downloading an application pack from this page and returning it in person or by post with your cheque payment. If you apply to us in person you can pay by cash, cheque or debit card.

If you apply for a road occupation permit you are legally obligated to take into account statutory notice periods. Our statutory guidance page tells you about the likely time scales needed to process applications.

Please note revised Charges came into operation on 1 April 2012

Charges will depend on the type of permit you have applied for and the length of time you will need to do your work. Full details of charges are included within each relevant application pack.
