Gritting routes

The map below shows the Priority 1 (red) and Priority 2 (blue) road gritting routes in Edinburgh.  These routes will be treated in priority order, before the remainder of the roads are treated. Please note that the full length of certain roads may fall into more than one treatment category. The map also shows the pavement gritting routes (purple lines). Alternatively, you can search by street name in the following directories:

Please note that we are still updating the 2011/12 winter gritting routes, and further details will continue to be added.

Salt/Grit bin locations

You can use the map below to search for salt bins within 250m or 1km of a specified location. Alternatively, you can search our directory of salt bins which lists the locations by street name.

Quoting the reference number of a particular salt bin when possible, please contact us to: report a salt bin which needs re-filled, or has been damaged; request an existing salt bin is re-positioned or removed; or request a new salt bin. Read more about self treatment of roads and pavements.
