Changes to coin payments

Paying for parking using a mobile phone

From 1 January 2012, we can no longer accept 5p and 10p coins in our pay and display ticket machines. Although the price of parking per hour will remain the same.

The Treasury is introducing a new style of coin which is marginally thicker than the old type. This means that our ticket machines will not be able to identify these new coins.

Changing all the city's ticket machines could cost around £360,000. But this is too costly an option. The smallest coin now accepted will be 20p. There should be no change to 50p, £1 and £2 coins.
