Houses in Multiple Occupation

HMO - Important Information

On 31 August 2011, Part 5 of the Housing ( Scotland ) Act 2006 will be brought into effect by the Scottish Government. From this date, all Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licences will be considered as operating under the 2006 Act.  This Act will also give the Council new enforcement powers. All existing HMO landlords have been notified of the transition arrangements.

Applicants should also be aware that the Scottish Government has issued new Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities on the Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.  This can be found within the Scottish Government website

As the guidance has introduced some changes to the benchmark standards, this Council is conducting a review of our HMO standards with a view to determining how these should be amended to take account of the new guidance.

Applicants are advised to monitor the Council's website to look out for comments on the revised standards and a likely timescale for their introduction.
