Private hire car licensing

In terms of the Civic Government ( Scotland ) Act 1982, The City of Edinburgh Council requires all vehicles operating as a Taxi or a Private Hire Car to be licensed. Drivers of these vehicles also require to hold a separate Taxi Driver or Private Hire Car Driver's Licence.
The conditions that apply
Each licence issued is subject to standard conditions that are imposed on all Private Hire Car Vehicles licensed by Edinburgh Council. In addition to the standard conditions, a licence may also contain special conditions that are only applicable to your licence.
Who is eligible to apply
Any person who wants to operate a Private Hire Car in Edinburgh must hold a valid Private Hire Car licence.
How to apply
Applicants must complete the Private Hire Car Licence application form and submit it with any supporting documentation to the Licensing Section along with the standard fee.
