The Council already licences taxi and private hire car vehicles and their drivers. A new licensing regime for taxi and private hire car booking offices has been introduced by the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Booking Offices) 2009.
Do I need a Licence?
If you wish to use premises located in Edinburgh to accept bookings for four or more Taxis or Private Hire Cars then you will need a licence.
What conditions apply to a Licence?
Each licence issued is subject to standard conditions that are imposed on all Taxi Vehicles licensed by Edinburgh Council. In addition to the standard conditions, a licence may also contain special conditions that are only applicable to your licence.
Are you eligible to apply?
An applicant must have suitable premises situated within the City of Edinburgh Council area.
How do I Apply?
Applicants must complete the Taxi or PHC Booking Office application form and submit it with any supporting documentation to the Licensing Section along with the standard fee.

The information detailed on the application form. Supporting documentation will be required if the Licence is to be held by a limited company or partnership.
