In terms of the Civic Government ( Scotland ) Act 1982, The City of Edinburgh Council requires all vehicles operating as a Taxi or a Private Hire Car to be licensed. Drivers of these vehicles also require to hold a separate Taxi or Private Hire Car Driver's Licence.

Yes, if you wish to drive a Edinburgh Taxi.
What conditions apply to a Licence?
Each licence issued is subject to standard conditions that are imposed on all Taxi Drivers licensed by Edinburgh Council. In addition to the standard conditions, a licence may also contain special conditions that are only applicable to your licence.
Are you eligible to apply?
An applicant must have held an appropriate DVLA driver's licence for a minimum of 12 months.
How do I Apply?
Applicants must complete the Taxi Driver's application form and bring it to the Licensing Section along with the supporting documentation to and the correct fee. A photograph will be taken.

The information detailed on the application form and all parts of your DVLA driver's licence.
How long does a licence last?
A new licence will last for a period of one year. Renewal applications will normally be renewed on a three yearly basis.
