Niddrie Burn Restoration and ERI Link Road
Project Overview
The Niddrie Burn Restoration comprises the realignment of 1.8 Km of the Niddrie Burn to form a new river corridor with associated landscaping. A new meadow area will form a compensatory flood storage area within the parkland.
There will be two footbridges built over the new burn. Areas of ground will be raised to form development areas for housing and future development.
The ERI Link Road will comprise of a link road between Greendykes and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, a section of the road will be for Public Transport only.
The Link road will have a footpath, shared use cycle path and street lighting. A new roundabout will join the link road to Greendykes Road . A new road bridge will be built over the new river corridor.
Work Completed to Date
- Site Clearance.
- Detailed Archaeological survey of site.
- Filling up of existing mine workings.
- Site fencing erected & public rights of way moved so they can be kept open during work.
- Piling for new road bridge.
- Removal of top soil which is now stored for future use on site.
- Construction of embankment for the ERI link road.
Ongoing Work
- Diversion of a water main.
- Diversion of sewer pipes.
- Diversion of electricity cables
- Excavation for flood storage area.
- Excavation on new burn channel has started in Hunters Hall Park area
- Construction of bridge abutments, burn flow structure & flood storage area inlet weir structure.
Planned work for 2 weeks ( 8/12/11)
- All the ongoing work will continue over the next 2 weeks
- The contractor intends to close Greendykes Road between their compound and the site entrance to allow construction work to start on a new roundabout to connect Greendykes Road with the ERI Link Road . For exact location please see location information.
