City of Edinburgh Council

Careers in Environmental Health

Have you ever considered working in Environmental Health?

To join us you must either be a qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO), Food Safety Officer, or an Enforcement Officer. The Royal Environmental Health Institute Scotland (REHIS) advertise vacancies, and can give more advice on the qualifications you may need.

The route to qualify as an EHO is to do either a BSc (Hons) degree or MSc in Environmental Health.  You must then complete a training placement for at least 48 weeks with a Local Authority and then pass a Professional Diploma exam.  Once qualified you can work in a number of areas within Environmental Health including noise, public health, air quality, contaminated land, pest control, housing, food safety and health and safety.  We have specialist teams for each of these areas. You can find any vacancies advertised on My Job Scotland.
