Kerbside Recycling Service

Red and blue boxes

You can find out if your street has a red and blue box collection and the day it takes place by entering your postcode at GreenBoxDay. If your street isn't listed then check out the recycling points page for an alternative way to recycle.
Make sure your box is out for collection on the kerbside by 8am on your collection day. If your box is not collected you can use our report a missed collection form.

You can order red and blue boxes, covers, bags and garden waste bins using our recycling box/bag or garden waste bins online form. Replacement box covers and recycling bags are also available from your local library or local neighbourhood office. Small boxes are now available, you can request them by calling 0131 529 3030 or by emailing waste@edinburgh.gov.uk with your full address.

The plastic bottle bag gives you more capacity to recycle using your red box but you can put your plastic bottles into the red box if that's easier for you. It would be really helpful if all materials presented for recycling were weighed down to stop them blowing around on windy days. You can seal the bag with an elastic band or clothes peg and secure it by presenting it between the red box and a garden wall, or by placing a weight on top.
