The cost of collection per premises remains fairly high in Edinburgh due to the frequent collection of black bags in the World Heritage Site, although we have become more efficient in the last 3 years.
The cost of disposing of our waste has become more expensive due to landfill taxes, but Edinburgh has shown a saving of almost £15.00 per premises over 3 years by using the train service to Dunbar from Powderhall.
Recycling initiatives, including increasing the amount of recycling banks in Community locations, have helped us to reach our recycling target of 34% in 2009.
