Living in a care home

Choosing a care home

A lot of help is available now for you to continue to live in your own home. If you feel that you can no longer manage safely at home, we can help you choose a care home.

Care homes can be either residential homes or nursing homes. Nursing homes employ nurses and residential care homes are visited by community district nurses. Moving to a care home is a big decision and the Care Information Scotland provide useful advice such as what to look for when choosing a care home.

To help you choose the right type of care home we can assess your needs. You may be entitled to help with care home fees and to provide this we must assess your needs. Care home fees vary widely and you can read further information on the cost of care homes.

You can ask Social Care for more advice or to assess your needs. If you are making plans for leaving hospital, you can ask to speak to the hospital social work team.

To find residential and nursing homes in Edinburgh you can search our care home directory by keyword and / or postcode.
