Where to look
Letting Agents
If you're looking at renting with a letting agent check to see if they are members of a regulatory body like ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) or NALS (National Approved Letting Scheme). This means that they have trained staff, have a good knowledge of tenancy law and they have a complaints procedure. They should have a good local knowledge and will have a choice of property in the area you want. You can also check for agents who members of the national landlord accreditation scheme LAS (Landlord Accreditation Scotland).
Letfirst
If you are homeless or may become homeless and do not have a deposit then Letfirst may be able to help you access a privately rented home.
Registration
You should check whether a property is registered before you consider any let.
Visit the Scottish Government's National Landlord Registration Website start your search. If you can't find the landlord or the property you are looking for, just phone or email the Landlord Registration team for further advice.
