PENNYWELL
What's Happening?

Feasibility work is being carried out to look at options for the future of the area. A steering group has been set up involving the local community to discuss what needs to be done.

What's Planned?

There is no funding at the moment for the area. Once the initial feasibility work has been completed regeneration funding options will be considered. In the meantime it is proposed to develop a local action plan which will cover management, maintenance and repair issues.

The Council has consulted with the local community and £170,000 will be spent on erecting fences around large blocks at Muirhouse Avenue and Muirhouse Way in 2004. Further investment in security measures are also planned in the next year.

MUIRHOUSE

What's Happening?

The New Housing Partnerships programme is now complete in Muirhouse. This included demolition and new build by a Housing Association, stock transfer and refurbishment, refurbishment of Council housing, and the creation of a new public park. The housing provided has been for both rent and low cost sale.

What's Planned?

There is no further development planned in the area, but housing management issues are now being considered. A neighbourhood management group has been established for Muirhouse and Drylaw which meets every two months. Contact Elaine Mill on 0131 529 5271 for further details.

ROYSTON / WARDIEBURN

What's Happening?

Following a community planning event one year ago, the Council has appointed consultants to produce a fully costed masterplan of the area. A Development Option Group has now been set up to monitor the development of the masterplan and oversee community consultation.

What's Planned?

There is currently no funding in place to take the masterplan forward. However, once its content is agreed with the Development Options Group, the Council will look at options available to secure funding to enable work to be carried out. In the meantime, the Council has spent approximately £200,000 installing secure door entry systems in 2003 and aims to invest a further £50,000 on fencing and security measures in the area during the first half of 2004.
