Get Up and Go 2008-09Welcome to the eighth edition of Get up and Go -1 October 2008 to 30 September 2009What is Get Up and Go?Get up and go is an activities and opportunities programme aimed at people aged 50 years and over, including elders from the black minority ethnic community. It provides you with details of social, educational, cultural, sport and leisure opportunities that are currently running throughout the city. Get up and go has been developed in line with a City for All Ages - the city plan for older people. It is about improving opportunities and services for older people and removing discrimination towards them so that Edinburgh can truly become a city for all ages. How long does the programme last for?The Get up and Go programme runs for 12 months - from 1 October to 30 September each year. The eighth programme was launched on 1 October 2008. What kind of activities and opportunities are included in the programme?There is a range of activities included from tai chi, to line dancing, to writing short stories, to performing in plays, to trying your hand at golf. These are a few that are on offer. In this edition, we have highlighted the activities that are in for the first time by putting a green arrow next to them. We have once again included the sections on transport and a more comprehensive listing of useful city-wide organisations. We have also included a key to show if the activity venues are suitable for people with disabilities and are accessible to those with special needs. You can tell us of new activities by asking for a form or alternatively fill in the Get Up and Go online form.
