Edinburgh schools review - Ratho Primary School
|School||Ratho Primary School|
Pupils living in the Ratho Primary catchment area would not go to Balerno High but to the new West Edinburgh High when it opens in August 2022.
The area of Currie Primary’s catchment north of the Gogar Burn would be changed to Ratho Primary from August 2019
Pupils living in the Ratho, Hillwood, New Maybury and - subject to the outcome of a separate consultation - Kirkliston Primary catchment areas would go to the new West Edinburgh High.
|Who is affected||
Pupils currently in P4 to P7 and living in the Ratho Primary catchment area at Ratho Primary would continue to go to Balerno High when they reach S1.
Pupil currently in P1 to P3 or in the nursery and living in the Ratho Primary catchment area would go to a new West Edinburgh High when they reach S1.
|Reasons for the proposal||
Projections show there is not enough space at Balerno High for pupils from Currie, Dean Park, Kirknewton and Ratho Primary Schools.
The new West Edinburgh High is likely to be closer to Ratho Primary than Balerno High is. Ratho Primary’s catchment area is currently detached from the rest of the Balerno High catchment area.
If Kirkliston Primary were to go to Winchburgh High, without Ratho Primary a new West Edinburgh High would have a relatively small roll until further houses were built in the area.
