Fishing has an established tradition
within the Pentlands for decades. Five reservoirs within the park permit
fishing and are managed by private clubs, organisations or individuals.

Glencorse reservoir
on the Midlothian side, in one of
the most spectacular glens in the hills. Dooks Fisheries manage the boat
fishing on the reservoir which is stocked with rainbow, blue and brown
trout. The season is from 12th March to the 30th October. A new season
ticket is available for 2005. Booking for boats for Monday through Friday
is preferable. Limited parking is available at the reservoir for anglers
only. Over 300,000 people walk up the Glen Road annually and traffic must
be kept to a minimum to avoid accidents.

Loganlea Reservoir
is located at the far end of the Glen
road, beyond Glencorse reservoir and is operated between 1st March and
30th November by Mr Jack. Both bank and boat fishing are available for
rainbows and browns.
The facilities include a café for anglers, tackle for sale and
tuition.

Clubbiedean reservoir
is situated 1 mile south of Colinton,
up Woodhall Road then left into Bonaly Road, passing Torduff reservoir
and then go through the wooden gate up to Clubbiedean. It is one of the
smaller reservoirs in the hills, but offers fly fishing only, by boat
for rainbow and blue trout.
Bank fishing is available for disabled anglers off the recently constructed
accessible jetty. Limited parking is available next to the reservoir,
and there are no toilet or indoor facilities. The season operates from
12th March to the 30th October.

Harlaw and Threipmuir reservoirs
are on the North Western
side of the hills, surrounded by small pockets of woodlands, grazing and
farmland. A car park is located a short distance away, and the
Harlaw
Ranger base and visitor centre
is adjacent.
Malleny Angling Association
hold the bank fishing rights
to Harlaw reservoir and to the north bank of Threipmuir reservoir - from
the fishing hut to the west, eastwards to the Black Springs,a distance
of approximately 1.5 miles. The reservoirs are stocked with rainbow trout.
The Association was formed in 2001 to manage this fishery under a lease
from Rosebery Estates. The Association has 100 members with an additional
10 season permit holders.
Day permits are available to visiting anglers and are obtainable from
the Post Office, 3 Main Street, Balerno.
The fishing season for both waters starts on the 1st April each year and
closes on Threipmuir on the 30th September and on Harlaw on the 31st October.

Harperigg reservoir
is to the far west of the Regional
Park, with the fishing rights shared between bank owners.
Fishing
has now resumed at Harperrig. The reservoir has been stocked with Brown
Trout up to 2.5lbs in weight to supplement the wild population. Boat and
bank fishing are both available. Tackle can be hired on site and fly-casting
lessons can be booked.
