The Concierge and Caretaking ServiceWhat we doIf you live in a high-rise block you'll have a caretaker or a concierge team. They provide a cleaning service, security and advice and assistance to all residents. Most high-rise blocks have concierge staff who can deal with immediate problems in your flat, block or surrounding area and put you in touch with other council services. Your concierge teamYour concierge team is based in an office in one of the blocks of flats in your area. Information on how to contact them, including opening hours, will be on your block noticeboard, usually found in the block foyer. You can also contact them via the entry phone handset in your flat. Working on a shift basis, concierge staff have the same duties as caretakers, but also monitor CCTV and security systems. Shift times are displayed outside their office. If a duty concierge is not in the office, they'll leave a notice to say where they are and how to contact them. Your resident CaretakerSome blocks have a resident caretaker. Caretakers carry out regular checks to make sure that common areas are clean and tidy. They also check on the security of the building, handle out of hours emergencies, and report repairs in common areas. A resident caretaker is not on duty all the time. Their hours of work are displayed in your foyer noticeboard, alongwith an emergency contact number. CleaningCaretakers and Concierge Teams will usually clean common areas. Details of their duties are outlined in our Standards of Service. In a few areas cleaning is carried out by contractors. Your Block ManagerEach Local Area Office has a Block Manager who is responsible for all of the blocks of flats in the area. The name and contact details of your Block Manager will be displayed on your block noticeboard or concierge office. The Block Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the service and ensuring service standards are maintained. This includes monitoring the work of caretakers and concierge teams, and liaising with residents groups and other agencies such as the Police, Social Work and Environmental Services.
