NESTA Application

The Council is working up an application to submit to NESTA at the end of January and wants to hear your ideas for this

Currently NESTA ( National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) have invited Scottish Councils to apply for funding to realise a new digital service. NESTA want to encourage Councils to open up data for a good purpose. We're very keen to be part of this opportunity and have already done some brainstorming/workshopping to come up with possible projects.

NESTA has carried out a similar project with English Councils with a number of  successful projects.  You can see the results of their 'Making it Local' project on their website.

The current favourite here is to build a project using environmental/green themes. This has the potential to grow into a large city-wide project which could benefit local organisations, communities and individuals.

We have any number of data sets across the Council - sustainability, biodiversity and open spaces are obvious areas that we can provide core data about.

To be really successful we want to work with local organisations, local people and developers, and make it a living service where visitors and local citizens can continually add their own data as well as feedback on the service

We'd like to hear from local organisations who might have data they'd be willing to share, from anyone who is interested in our environment and wants to be part of this, and from developers who'd like to work with us to build the technical tools we'll need to deliver the project.

If you want to get in touch please email the Web team  - our application has to be completed by the end of January
