Economy Convener welcomes airport's business pledge

Edinburgh Airport has today made a commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge - a partnership to champion inclusive growth and fair employment practices.

With over 11.1 million passengers last year, Scotland’s busiest airport said it plays a crucial role in both Edinburgh and Scotland’s international standing, not only as an airport but also a large employer.

Welcoming the news, Councillor Gavin Barrie, Edinburgh’s Economy Convener and Living Wage Champion, said: “I’m glad to see Edinburgh Airport committing to the Scottish Business Pledge and standing up for fair employment practices.

"Like the Council, the airport is a Living Wage employer and I hope the move encourages other Capital businesses and organisations to follow suit. I also hope it marks a positive step forward for plans to expand the Airport Recruitment Centre as the Council looks to strengthen our employability services.

“Taken together this would help fulfil many of the promises of the Scottish Business Pledge - productivity, employment, fair work and inclusive growth.”
