Leith Harbour & Newhaven and Leith Links Community Councils seek new members

Two community councils in the north of Edinburgh are open for nominations for interim elections.

Both Leith Harbour and Newhaven Community Council and Leith Links Community Council are seeking nominations to fill vacancies for seven elected members for each.

People interested in representing their local community are invited to fill out a nomination form by 30 March.

Community council members can make a difference by commenting on licensing and planning applications, taking part in community campaigns and working with others to improve the local area.

Councillor Maureen Child, Convener of the Communities and Neighbourhoods Committee, said: “This is a great chance to really get involved in the local community and to have a say on the things that matter.

“All those interested should consider signing up to have the opportunity to make a difference in the in the Leith Harbour and Newhaven or Leith Links areas.”

Community Councils are represented on each of the 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships established across the city. The Council, police, health, and the voluntary and community sectors are all working together within the partnerships to enhance the quality of life in local neighbourhoods.

Nominations for membership must be made between 7 March 2016 and 4pm on Wednesday 30 March 2016.  If there are more candidates than places, an election will be held on 25 April 2016.

Those interested in representing their community and having a say on issues affecting their area should contact 469 5656 for a nomination form or visit the Council website.
