Busiest ever year for Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport has today announced December’s passenger numbers showing that a grand total of 11,130,584 passengers passed through the airport in 2015 making it the busiest ever year at a Scottish Airport.

The annual total represents an increase of over 950,000 passengers from the 2014 total - further cementing Edinburgh Airport’s reputation as the place where Scotland meets the World.

The success was bolstered by particularly strong international passenger figures – which in December peaked with a 19 per cent year-on-year growth.

Economy convener, Councillor Frank Ross, welcomed the news. He said: "To think that for each resident living in the city, more than 20 passengers landed at our airport last year just goes to show that while Edinburgh is a small city, we punch above our weight as one of the world’s leading tourist and business destinations.

“These incredible results are testament to Edinburgh Airport’s new and strengthened links with airlines and the continuing investment in the facility. I hope to see the record-breaking trend continue throughout 2016 and translate into further positive economic growth and local job opportunities.”
