Welcome to The Improbable City – Edinburgh Art Festival 2015

The annual Edinburgh Art Festival (EAF) is back, featuring an ambitious and colourful programme of exhibitions and installations all over the Capital.

Running from 30 July – 30 August, the EAF might be the youngest of the city’s summer festivals but it is now the UK’s biggest yearly celebration of visual art, uniting some of the most innovative artists from across the globe.

The theme for 2015 is ‘The Improbable City’. A response to the unique fairy-tale architecture and setting of Edinburgh, the festival features works from Charles Avery, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd and Ariel Guzik among many many others.

Use the EAF map to make your way around the city, and don’t miss the City Art Centre’s landmark summer exhibition which features as one of the festival highlights. Scottish Art: People, Places, Ideas is free to visit and will run until 27 September.

Councillor Richard Lewis, the city’s Festivals and Events Champion, said: "The Edinburgh Art Festival has launched another fantastic and diverse programme for 2015, which includes exciting new artworks for public spaces in the capital. As the largest annual visual arts festival in the UK, it brings the very best from across the globe to Edinburgh, greatly enhancing the city’s excellent reputation as home to the world’s greatest festivals.

“This year, visitors will be able to view this summer’s landmark exhibition at the City Art Centre. All of the artworks on display in Scottish Art: People, Places, Ideas are by Scottish artists or about Scotland, and many of the pieces are pivotal works that have influenced the direction of the nation’s artists and Scotland’s worldwide reputation for art.”

The EAF is a charitable organisation which receives support from the City of Edinburgh Council. Last year’s event attracted nearly 300,000 attendances to the capital’s leading and start-up galleries, museums and artist-run spaces.
