New parents' voice for committee

Alexander Ramage has been appointed as the new Parent Representative for the Council’s Education, Children and Families Committee. He will replace Lindsay Law who has been in the post for the past two and a half years.

Convener Councillor Paul Godzik said: “I would like to thank Lindsay for her contribution to the Committee over the past couple of years and I look forward to a continued positive relationship with Alexander. It is a fantastic development that we have a parents representative sitting on the Education, Children & Families Committee, alongside teacher and religious representatives, and it is very much part of our Co-operative Council agenda.

"Edinburgh was the first local authority in the country to make such an appointment, and when taken together with the Consultative Committee with Parents and the new neighbourhood groups the level of parental engagement in our schools has grown hugely over the last few years.  It is clear that Edinburgh are leading the way across Scotland in terms of parental representation.”

Alexander Ramage, who currently sits on the Consultative Committee with Parents, will take up his new role at the next Committee meeting on 6 October 2015.
