Celebrating World Heritage Day 2015

Come and help us celebrate World Heritage Day on Saturday, 18 April at an event supported by the City of Edinburgh Council and find out more about Scotland’s five World Heritage Sites.

World Heritage Day

Join in some family fun at the Storytelling Centre, 43-45 High Street by exploring Roman and Neolithic handling boxes, dressing up and taking part in craft activities as well as listening to storytelling and project presentations in the Storytelling Bothy. You can find out more on Historic Scotland’s website or call the World Heritage Team on 0131 668 8763. The event will run from 12 noon to 4pm.

Cllr Ian Perry, Convener of the Planning Committee, said: “I would encourage everyone to join in and celebrate World Heritage Day. Edinburgh’s city centre was given World Heritage Status due to features such as its landscape setting and its iconic skyline and is something the Council is immensely proud of and takes very seriously. UNESCO stated at the time that the site ‘represents a remarkable blend of two urban phenomena: organic medieval growth and 18th and 19th century town planning.

World Heritage Day is celebrated around the globe to raise awareness of our diverse cultural and natural heritage and why World Heritage Sites are of outstanding value. This year’s theme is ‘the value of heritage’.
