Councillor Cardownie on the Virgin Money Fireworks Festival

The annual Fireworks Concert at the end of the August festival season has been confirmed for Monday 31 August this year.

Virgin Money has been set as the headline sponsors for the event for a further three years.

One of the largest fireworks events of its kind in the world, the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert will start at 9.30pm on Monday 31 August 2015. The three partners, Edinburgh International Festival, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Virgin Money, said it would offer a celebration in which the whole city and its residents can share and which gives everyone more to enjoy on the final day of the summer festivals.

Conductor Garry Walker has been confirmed for this year’s concert, tickets for which will go on sale with the 2015 Edinburgh International Festival programme on 28 March.

Commenting on the news, Councillor Steve Cardownie, Festivals and Events Champion for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: ‘Every year the August festivals in Edinburgh go out with a bang with a fantastic display of fireworks and superb music.

"Support and funding of the festivals from the private sector is hugely welcomed, and this secured sponsorship for the next three years is good news for the Edinburgh International Festival and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

"The concert always draws huge crowds, with residents who don’t secure a ticket still enjoying great views from key vantage points across Edinburgh."
