Edinburgh Airport passenger numbers break 10m barrier

City's economy leader welcomes record-breaking figures for 2014

Cllr Frank Ross, Economy Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “It’s a great achievement for the airport to break the 10 million passenger barrier and is very encouraging news for Edinburgh’s economy. It shows that their investment in both new long haul routes and those to London airports is paying dividends.

"The increase in passengers means more investment than ever before and reinforces Edinburgh’s deserved reputation as a top destination for tourists all year round not just during the summer. Only last week Edinburgh was voted by readers of the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards as the top destination in the United Kingdom.

“With Edinburgh’s trams now carrying tens of thousands of passengers to and from the airport every week 2015 promises to be an exciting year for the airport and the Capital. We know that increased activity in terms of passenger numbers translates into economic benefits for the city and beyond, as well as creating new and better jobs for the local and wider economy."
