Racing his way to a park near you

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah has announced he will open his 2015 racing schedule at the international Great Edinburgh XCountry at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh on Saturday 10 January.

The Great Edinburgh XCountry, free to watch and televised live on BBC, is part of a New Year festival for runners of all abilities, based at Holyood Park, next to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Commenting on the news, Councillor Steve Cardownie, Edinburgh’s Festivals and Events Champion, said: “Every year this free-to-watch event draws massive crowds, and with Olympic Champion Mo Farah due to open his 2015 racing schedule at the event, I’d say we can expect plenty of media interest and huge support from Edinburgh crowds. It’s great to showcase the setting of Edinburgh’s Holyrood park in this way, and we hope the event will be enjoyed by local running fans and perhaps even encourage a few others to take up running as a sport.”

The City of Edinburgh Council is proud to support the Great Edinburgh XCountry 2015. It provides a grant of £125,000 which supports crowd public safety and road diversions.
