Council wins joint social enterprise award

Cllr Frank Ross, Convener of the Economy Committee and Linsay Chalmers of Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network comment on this great win for the city.

Social Enterprise Awards Scotland press release

Cllr Frank Ross, Convener of the Economy Committee, said: “This award is recognition of how well our partnership with Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network (ESEN) is working. The Council’s support and financial contribution, which enabled ESEN to develop the brand, ‘Buy the Good Stuff’, has raised the profile of social enterprise in Edinburgh. This fits well with our Social Enterprise Strategy, which encourages more people to use these organisations. As well as obvious benefits for employment in the city and the businesses themselves, their use brings wider benefits such as employing people with disabilities and filling gaps in the market which may exist. Social in the Square, which we supported, was also extremely successful, bringing together many local organisations and groups, who were then able to showcase their products and services in one arena.”

Linsay Chalmers Coordinator of Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network, said:"We are delighted that our partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council has been recognised at the Social Enterprise Awards - Scotland. By working together we have been able to lead the way in raising the profile of social enterprises, both through our Buy the Good Stuff marketing campaign and Social in the Square festival. We have also been able to provide a much more joined-up service for social enterprises in the city."
