Cllr Frank Ross, Economy Convener, said: "I am not surprised at all at this report as Edinburgh is the most prosperous UK city outside London according to the Office for National Statistics. For the last three years it was also ranked as the best European City for foreign direct investment in its category according to fDi’s European Cities and Regions of the Future awards.

“Edinburgh is prime for new investment at the moment and there will be ongoing opportunities in the coming years. We are working closely with developers through our ‘Edinburgh 12’ initiative just now to help progress the development of strategically important gap sites across the city. Twelve sites including Haymarket, Edinburgh St James and New Waverley, have been identified and are expected to provide new Grade A offices as well as significant retail, leisure and residential space.

“We are committed to working closely with developers to help realise the full potential of these sites and in doing so contribute to the sustainable growth of Edinburgh’s economy and the creation of jobs. There is a great opportunity for investors in seeking to meet this future demand.”
