Airport figures 'tremendous'

Economy Convener Councillor Frank Ross has welcomed today’s passenger figures from Edinburgh Airport, which show the Airport becoming the first in Scotland to surpass 10 million passengers in a single year.

Councillor Frank Ross, Economy Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “These are tremendous passenger figures for Edinburgh Airport, with the busiest June on record and the equivalent of twice the population of Scotland using the Airport in just one year. And with this data coming in the same week when we welcomed the news of a brand new daily Etihad Airways service connecting Edinburgh with Abu Dhabi, I think this neatly demonstrates the benefits of investing in new flight routes.

“With trams transporting tens of thousands of passengers to and from the Airport every week and the new extension coming on well, this is an exciting time for the Airport, and for Edinburgh. Increased activity in terms of passenger numbers translates into economic benefits for the City and beyond, as well as creating new and better jobs for the local and wider economy.”
