Transport Convener welcomes new bus service to South Queensferry

Councillor Lesley Hinds comments on Lothian Buses' successful bid to bring the bus to west Edinburgh.

The Transport Convener has welcomed the approval of a bid by Lothian Buses to run a new bus service between Queensferry and Hermiston Gait.

The number 63 service, which will be subsidised by City of Edinburgh Council, was agreed at Tuesday's Transport and Environment Committee.

Councillor Hinds, said: “The residents of South Queensferry and Kirkliston have for many years sought a service to their communities by Lothian Buses, so I’m glad that we have been able to agree this competitive bid, made possible by the Council’s £1.2m subsidised bus fund.

“The Lothian Buses service will now offer them connections to the rest of Edinburgh, as well as a Sunday service, giving local people the same provision as the rest of the city’s residents.

“We aim to provide everyone a fully integrated transport system with the introduction of the new tram system, and this bus will do just that by delivering passengers directly to tram stops.

“With a new housing development set for the area and many commuters already living there, I’m certain the number 63 will be a popular transport choice for the villages it passes through.”
