Nominate your local hero for good citizenship award

Nominations are being sought from individuals and organisations across Edinburgh for the Award for Good Citizenship – an annual presentation instituted by the will of the late Sir William Y Darling, Lord Provost of Edinburgh between 1941 and 1944.

Later this year The City of Edinburgh Council will recognise a citizen or citizens of Edinburgh who "has or have done most for the City's Honour and Welfare" during the last municipal year (April 2011 to May 2012).

Lord Provost George Grubb said: "This award is a way to pay tribute to an outstanding citizen of Edinburgh whose efforts, whether within the local community or further afield, have put this city on the map. I would encourage both residents and community groups to nominate their 'local hero' for an opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve."

Nominations should be submitted no later than Friday 4 May 2012. Full details and nomination forms may be obtained from the office of the Head of Legal and Administrative Services, the City of Edinburgh Council, City Chambers, High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1YJ, or telephone 0131 529 4264.
