Council news on the move through new ‘app’

People wanting to access Council papers, library opening hours, news and other frequently-sought information through their mobiles can now do so more easily thanks to a new application for smart phones.

Council mobile app home pageWith mobile use on the up generally and up to 25% for some parts of www.edinburgh.gov.uk, providing better access on smart phones and tablets is a priority for the Council. The app is an interim step while work continues to make the website more mobile-friendly.

Anyone using their phone to access the website should be prompted automatically to install the app, but it is also available by putting http://edinburgh.weejot.com/mobile into a mobile browser.

The app will work with the more recent operating systems for the iPhone, Android phones and Blackberries. It is not available in any app stores.

If you have any problems please see our Q&A below. If your issue isn't dealt with there please email web@edinburgh.gov.uk

Why can't I find it in the app store?

The app is only available via http://edinburgh.weejot.com/mobile.

Is it really an app then?

It's not an application in the proper sense, but it does appear and behave like one to an extent. Put simply, it's just another way of taking existing website content and presenting it in a way that's easier to use on a mobile phone.

Why isn't it working on my phone?

The app should work with most of the recent versions of operating systems for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and Blackberries. If you are having problems, we suggest updating your software. If you have any other problems, please email web@edinburgh.gov.uk.
