Lord Provost Donald Wilson said: "On behalf of the City of Edinburgh, can I extend a warm welcome to all the competitors and spectators for the 17th European Cycle Messenger Championships. As well as promoting active lifestyles and travel, Scotland's Capital boasts arguably the finest backdrop for major events so I'm sure everyone taking part will enjoy a fun and unforgettable weekend."

Eva Ballin, who has worked as a courier in Edinburgh for almost 12 years, co-organised the championships. She said: "We welcome anyone with a bike who wants to prove they can hold their own against the fittest of couriers.

"Edinburgh will be a fantastic venue for what promises to be a spectacular weekend featuring racing and trick and fun events. Every overseas courier can be sure of a warm Scottish welcome."
