Lord Mayor of the City of London visits Edinburgh for business talks

The Leader and Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh Council will meet the Lord Mayor along with senior Council officers and figures from the Edinburgh business community today.

The Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Rt Hon Donald Wilson, said:

"This visit is an excellent opportunity for the two capitals to continue their partnership in promoting the UK to potential investors. As well as being a major centre for financial services and the main driver of the Scottish economy, Edinburgh has a lot to offer investors, from a highly skilled workforce to an outstanding quality of life. The Lord Mayor plays a vital role in promoting the UK across the globe, so we will be taking this chance to showcase the benefits of doing business in Scotland 's Capital. As well as hearing from leading figures in the Edinburgh economy, the Lord Mayor will also be able to see the city at its thriving best in the festival season."

The Lord Mayor, Alderman David Wootton, who spends three months a year leading financial delegation to new and established global markets overseas, said: "Edinburgh has a 300 year history of providing high quality financial services and hosts a concentration of international firms. My visit is designed to shine a light on the connections between the City of London and Edinburgh."

He added: "Edinburgh is the largest financial services hub outside London, and there is much we can do together by joining forces and build on our respective strengths to drive jobs and growth for the UK. Together we can secure opportunities that will raise awareness of Scotland 's offering on the international stage. "
