Free tickets now available for Paralympic Flame Festival celebration on 26 August

Meadowbank Sports Centre will play host to an evening of live music and entertainment to celebrate the start of the Paralympic Games.

The Paralympic Flame is travelling to each UK Capital before arriving in London to start the Paralympic Games. To celebrate the Scottish Flame coming to Edinburgh, a programme of live music and entertainment will take place at Meadowbank Sports Centre from 6pm on Sunday 26 August, including performances by Joe McElderry, 'Pulse of the Place' Samba band alongside Sing in the City and Edinburgh Signing Choirs.

The highlight of the event will be a spectacular lantern procession which will accompany eight Torchbearers as they carry the Scottish Flame to light the Ceremonial Cauldron.

Tickets are free and can be obtained through the Council's website.

Meadowbank Sports Centre is also the venue for a Paralympic Sports Spectacular from 10am to 1pm on the same day (Sunday 26 August).

Led by local sports clubs, this Sports Spectacular will include: football, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, badminton, judo, athletics, trampolining, fencing and much, much more.

Be part of Edinburgh's London 2012 Paralympic Games celebrations. With opportunities to try loads of Paralympic sports, a chance to meet some of Scotland's Paralympic athletes and an appearance by the Flame itself.
