Council Leader welcomes latest accolade for Edinburgh

Edinburgh has been voted the UK's favourite city by readers of a national newspaper.

The Capital beat York and Bath to win 'Best UK City' in the Telegraph Travel Awards for 2012.

Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Burns, said: "For many years now, Edinburgh has outshone her fellow UK cities in several popular polls and this latest accolade from the readers of the Telegraph is another welcome tribute. The Capital is a multi-award winning city with unparalleled architectural heritage and beauty, a fascinating history and a packed year-round calendar of world class festivals and events. We can't rest on our laurels for one second, however, especially in these challenging financial times. It has probably never been as important as it is now to continue to promote Edinburgh's economic development."
